Arx Pilosa

by Bob Drake

mr sterile Sounds a bit like Syd Barrett happy at 6 fathoms in a submarine,
the Cat Stevens Revival Death metal trio,
the Beach Boys channeling the yet-born vocal chords of Gibby Heyes via Ouija board,
a little folk music as heard by a badger with woodland psychosis,
Sigmund the Seamonster grew up, left home and happily married to a Yokai beauty,
like the summer you want to have, unpredictable, unexpected and goofy but with an exceptional quality! Favorite track: Selected Utterances.

Llettingo The surrounding comments are too good to improve upon but for Chris Cutler's (down to the left there) which sums it up perfectly: "I know we've all heard everything these days, but you haven't heard this". - For me, an instant & outstanding gem among a lifetime of wonder. Favorite track: Me and Apocalypse Fox.

Sebastian Rüger Mr.Drake, you are the first artist to purchase an album of via Bandcamp and thus enabling me to a fan account and the wide world of Bandcamp ..The third song has just begun and i am so thankful already I can't even describe it. Especially because it seems like "Arx Pilosa" is the perfect first album for Bandcamp as it is everything music can be..which is something i expect his fine portal to tell me about...though I hardly believe to be delivered that good anytime soon..
Alek Nyberg

Alek Nyberg Glorious, memorable pop hooks that are quickly torn apart by bursts of spastic avant-gardisms, which crumble into more delicious pop hooks. Easily one of the greatest, most disorienting things I've heard all year. Favorite track: Selected Utterances.

about

"So remarkable it's hard to begin. Those who liked the idea-rich, sonically breathtaking & compositionally daring pop music of the '60s, will recognise a similar mixture of pop-sensibility & radical innovation, now recast in contemporary terms. Unassuming virtuosity & state of the art studio merely as means to greater ends. I know we've all heard everything these days, but you haven't heard this"
– Chris Cutler, ReR Megacorp

released October 4, 2016

As always, Bob Drake is an enigma, a revered cult figure with a unique & bizarre approach to music. He has played many instruments with, and
recorded all sorts of bands since the early 1970‘s. A founding member of the avant-rock band Thinking Plague in the early 1980s, and in the 90‘s a member of the 5uu's, Hail and The Science Group (with Chris Cutler, Stevan Kovacs Tickmayer and Fred Frith). He began writing and recording his own music in 1991, and began doing solo performances in 2015. Drake is also a renowned studio engineer, whose engineering credits are absurdly (!) diverse, including mainstream artists the likes of Ice Cube, Tina Turner and Engelbert Humperdinck.

A musician's musician, he just does what he does, this time on his 9th
solo album. Like the previous album “Lawn Ornaments”, this one has been illustrated by fine-artist Joe Mruk, who created a remarkable 36 page full color booklet chock full of original illustrations.
